I had some sessions when my marriage was already in free fall and honestly those hours on the wipe clean sofa with an abundance of Kleenex were some of the hardest of my life. So now those two words are on a par with ‘cavity search’ or ‘severe delays.’

But there’s a new school of thought that says pre crisis couples counselling is a relationship win. Gwyneth does it. And so does @andreamclean1 and @annawilliamsonofficial (who says it would make the best gift for newly weds).

What do you think? Do you think preempting problems is good? Or is it inviting trouble?

So I could have gone for someone totally different

So I could have gone for someone totally different but.. I didn’t.

Of course there are some areas that my new partner is opposite to my ex (🙏🏻) , but there are many traits they share. Sportiness, can do attitude, positivity and, well, an alpha ness.

In my @youmagazine @dailymail column I write about why, despite not really giving a 🐀🍑about the FA cup/Six Nations/Wimbledon/The Ashes I have actively chosen to be with someone who gets congratulated by Sky Sports on being an ultimate fan 🙈😂

I think it’s because I gravitated to what I grew up with - the background chatter of relegation zones, of missed chances and glory supporters. It’s what I know.

And getting back in your comfort zone is okay most of the time. But what if your past experiences mean you only feel ‘safe’ if you are being controlled. Or turned on when you are being treated badly.

Have you gone for the same kind of guy?

What character traits have you avoided and what have you sought out? (Perhaps someone who doesn’t give themselves a full body wash with their curry house towelette 😂)

Were you told the person they were having an affair with was more spontaneous? More exciting? Wilder? Sexier?

I was talking to someone recently who is right in hell of betrayal discovery. Her previously loving husband now cold and detached and giving her his ‘facts.’

She is questioning if he is right? If she had lost her spark, her effervescence, her sexiness? Because if he is saying this - the person she has trusted most in the world - it must be because it’s true…

And then she is angry. Because she was looking after the kids, working hard, doing the domestic drudge. Not much time for sexts and lingerie and frivolity.

It’s a massive headf***

But I know time means she will see it more clearly.

With a bit of distance you realise in an affair world there is no mundane - it’s sexy underwear, cocktails in bars, late nights. Its all fun.

Real life doesn’t exist. No mundanity inveigling it’s way in. Zero childcare chat, no ‘who is going to take the bins out.’

Plus affairs mess with brain chemistry. How someone views themselves, others and the situation.

Case in point - you always think the person someone is imploding their life for must be pretty amazing. But mostly they are not goddesses, but human, like us all. With stray hairs, and blemishes and some less than flattering.

I always feel I must balance this by saying, I’m not demonising people who have affairs. (Although I’m not excusing it either). But for those on the other side sharing common experience helps healing.

FACT: People having affairs display common behaviours. They distance themselves from their partners (emotionally and physically), they start to become more focused on their looks. They smell different. They get angry. And cold.

Disclaimer: they may not do all these things.

When ‘Tracey’ dialled in to @thismorning with this message (swipe to see it in full) I was conflicted. A large part of me thought her partner was having an affair. It could be a full blown one - or maybe an emotional one - or perhaps even a fantastical one. Whatever - he was detaching.

But I was wary of saying this on TV. It felt irresponsibly to leave this poor woman with a bombshell when I had no way of offering personal support. Also I was conflicted because I don’t know it to be true. It’s a hunch. Gut instinct.

I know this woman will be in a world of pain, her brain scrambling for answers. She will not want to believe it possible.

As friends, family or fellow sufferers it’s hard to know whether to call it. To say what you really think. Especially without knowing all the facts.

BUT I also know that being told there is no one else when there is is so damaging. You spiral into a murky world of second guessing. And you need friends to shine the light on bad behaviour.

What advice do you have for this woman? What advice to you have for those who have a friend in this situation. Should they say what they think is going on?

P.P.S. Coincidentally I just got another message from a woman who said her husband left saying he wanted ‘something else.’ Which transpired to be a woman from his office.

Yup - buckle up honey - it’s incoming. 😂

V lucky to have escaped to sun. We stayed @fairmontbabalbahr - which was mahoosive and super glitzy luxurious. The food was excellent. We went half board and I was a bit worried about bun fight buffets - but it was all glorious. Particularly loved the Lebanese food @mazajbabalbahr and the 🍣 @cafesushi_abudhabi . Oh and the breakfast buffet. Of course. 3 coffees minimum every morning. It was so clean. And the people watching was next level.

It was incredible to have a week off from the cooking/cleaning/washing/tidying. And I’m v grateful.

Like lots of you I have the lurgy - so I basically did 200 steps a day from bed to sunlounger and back again.

Before I went I had an @siennaxofficial with Emma from @secretspauk - she came round with her pop up tent. So brilliant because it meant I didn’t go crazy on the tanning when I first saw the ☀️ (but was a bit weird going paler as I went through the week). Would recommend.

My gorgeous friend @tania.devereux took me to Saadiyat beach where there was blue sea and white powder sand and lots of cafes like @alkaline_uae

It’s rare I let wheels come right off but NYE + a very lucky trip to the ☀️ means I over indulged 🥂 and am massively feeling the pain today! As @vivieb73 would say I let the dog see the rabbit..

But it was brilliant fun - we went for a swim fully clothed at midnight (the dry clean only dress is looking worse than me!) after fireworks @fairmontbabalbahr

I’ve always resisted getting glasses (vanity + faff) and my driving specs were the cheapest I could find (sub £30) - but it turns out gigs can be flattering.

Oh and it’s useful to be able to see. 😂.

My name is Rosie and I took antidepressants…

Until about a month ago.

The truth is it feels a bit exposing to talk about it, but equally disingenuous not to.

When people ask me about how I navigated my break up I talk about talking, listening, self care, medicinal rosé and the support of friends and family (grateful doesn’t cut it). But I also think these pills were a massive part of my recovery.

I was prescribed them in the weeks after my break up - I couldn’t eat or sleep. I felt desperate and overwhelmed. I needed to function for the children. I was also taking sleeping pills to get through the nights when my ex was awol. And they weren’t good long term.

The GP thought they would help me get a handle on my emotions. And they did. My brain felt weird and zappy but after three weeks I felt a calmness descend. I stopped physically shaking. I could eat again.

I stayed on them for eighteen months and then I decided to stop them in the first lockdown (erm, great move Green). I weaned myself off by taking one every other day (this was a bad move - you need to talk to your GP and in my case take half a pill day) and then stopped.

I went downhill fast. Back to an anxious, questioning, overwhelmed state.

I went back on them - wondering if that’s what I was really like underneath?.

But it turns out the brain needs time to kick start making serotonin as it’s become reliant on the pills doing it for you. So you actually dip below where you would be naturally. You need to know you’ll probably feel a bit shitty when you come off them.

And then two years later I felt brave enough to try again. And it’s been okay.

I’ve felt a bit dizzy, bit brain zappy, maybe a bit more anxious - but nothing too hard.

And though I experienced no real side effects it’s good to feel 100% me again. I notice I feel things a bit more deeply. I’m moved more easily.

I’m only talking about this from my personal experience but I think it’s important to talk about how these pills can help some people in some situations.

So I’m grateful to that GP and grateful - as ever- to everyone that has given me love and support.

Nr to Newbury - it’s just won @timestravel hotel of the year 🙌🏻🙌🏻

I loved the design by @taylorandturner and the friendly staff and the relaxed vibe. A trip to the spa was heavenly and I braved the outdoor pool (lasted sub 3 mins). Had an @ila_spa couples massage (hilare) and ate our body weight at dinner

Managed to find compromise with boyfriend on watching footie - eating early at 6.15 (😱😂) - a prison time dinner - to watch the second half.

This am visited @clodagh_mckenna on-site shop (I’ve met her a few times on @thismorning and she is as warm and fun as you’d expect). Wanted everything in the shop. Obviously.

Went for a walk with map provided. Got lost. Had to follow Google maps back to hotel via aesthetically un pleasing rd. #standard.

Reluctantly said goodbye.

Being left is devastating, being left with no explanation is a next level mind fuckery…

This woman’s husband went on a work trip last winter and she hasn’t seen him since. His car is still on the driveway. His things still in the house.

When you have no idea, no forewarning that a break up is imminent, it’s so hard to process. You think everything is fine and then within moments your life is turned upside down. Your primary connection severed and your brain now scrambling to make sense of it. Everything you thought to be certain suddenly isn’t.

I read a book called Runaway Husbands by Vikki Stark - which was very useful.

Do you have any wisdom on how to deal with this situation? I know she’d be very grateful.

My advice? Read about it, talk it through with friend, accept it will take time to heal, be kind to yourself.

Half truths, straight out lies, deception - these

Half truths, straight out lies, deception - these things mess with your head.

By far the most desperate messages I get from women are the ones who are being driven to desperation by gaslighting.

It’s crazy making, decimates your self esteem, makes you question everything.

And it’s such cowardly behaviour - designed to protect the unfaithful persons own ego, their own sense of self - because if they lie to themselves and others around them they can convince themselves they deserve this happiness and that their partner deserves this treatment.

This email came to me recently (read the full version on my website) - link in bo.

But I was also reminded of how truly horrendous gaslighting can be by @amybannermanstylist - who posted today about how she refuses to suffer this behaviour silently and how my book and reading others stories have helped her.

Would love to know your thoughts and any wisdom or support you can share.

I feel aware that people might think of me ‘get over it’ - the truth I have healed but I will always remember the searing pain and helping those in the eye of the storm is more important to me than appeasing those who find my continued posting on the subject uncomfortable.

Extra fiesty as have grim cold!

My column today in @youmagazine @dailymail is about table manners and how when you become the sole adult in the house they can sliiiiiide.

I reckon table manners are a massive source of couples conflict (pls don’t lick the knife darling) and in dating bad ones can be a major turn off.

I’m talking about the guy who gives himself an all over body wash with the curry house hot towel (true story). Or wants ketchup in a posh restaurant (same). Or blows his nose on the napkin. 😱😱😱

Not that I’m perfect. I have previous for not ordering chips then eating theirs. Oh and asking for ridiculous variations on the dish/drink detailed on the menu (1/2 shot decaf latte with almond milk extra hot pls)

Apparently it’s singles day today (I’m not sure I’m down with these ‘days’ - sure there is a cabbage appreciation day and quite possibly a national nose pickers day) but it felt like a good excuse to post this quote from Maya Angelou.

From my dating epoch I remember there is such a temptation to think somehow a connection will overcome all obstacles and that if you are sexy, smart enough you can change someone’s character/life plan. Turn a pipe and slippers guy into a party animal or conversely 180 a confirmed bachelor into marriage material.

I know it can be bruising out there so I think it’s worth channeling Maya and remembering…

1) Don’t date someone’s potential, date the actual person in front of you.

2) Be pragmatic. If they say don’t want kids/long term love/ to share joint custody of a Guinea pig it’s a good idea to listen to that rather than think you’ll persuade them into it. Instead MOVE ON and find a fellow rodent lover.

3) Remember actions speak louder than words. If they are flakey and don’t show up (literally or metaphorically) then NEXT. How they behave IRL is key.

Actually changed my mind about singles day in the time it’s taken to write this post. Think singles need to be celebrated. Remember when Carrie Bradshaw was peeved about all the £££ she had splashed out in weddings and baby shower and so she decided to get married to herself and sets up a gift list at @manoloblahnik - well 🙌🏻 I’m good with that.

The super chic @janecattani has created the most incredible range called @janeagaincashmeres .

I have always been obsessed with cashmere - I didn’t experience it growing up in Birmingham but when I started interning @elleuk I encountered this wonder fabric and I was addicted. Of course I couldn’t afford anything made of it but - and thus is so random - when I moved into a skanky house in Putney with my mates I found a small beige cashmere v neck in the basement! I dyed it with @dylon_uk and wore it for years!

I digress - Jane is a fashion industry legend - has worked for @dior @harpersbazaarus . My aunt introduced us (I went to meet her in Paris for a job interview and was a day early and she was gracious!). I didn’t get the job (my French was v limited 😂) after that we used to share seats at the shows.

Her cashmere is amazing quality and has that Gallic insouciance with relaxed streetwear vibes.

It’s the perfect antidote to this miserable weather.

Needed to make my answers PG for my mum 😂📺

Its a perennial problem - in many long term relationships a DESIRE DISCREPANCY reveals itself post honeymoon period.

I have a mate who, when asked by her husband what she really wanted in bed said (deadpan) ‘a heated over blanket.’
😂

Sexperts say this desire difference is normal and offer up lots of ways to close the gap (ahem)

But it’s also worth remembering the following 5 things dampen ardour

1) STRESS. If your head is imploding and your cortisol levels sky rocketing, the idea of sexy time is less appealing than a Kim Jong- un hair do

2) SOME MEDICATION. Notably anti depressants and blood pressure pills.

3) SLEEP. Increase in tiredness = decrease in horniness.

4) RESENTMENT. Long term grudges can harden into contempt and anger towards your partner. Which means you’re unlikely to want to rip their pants off

5) HORMONES. Think post pregnancy or menopause or manopause

I always love my visits to @itv studios - the @thismorning team always provide a warm welcome and buckets of frothy coffee to soothe my imposter syndrome. ☕️😂

Today was mega mix of guests floating around from @lupitanyongo (and her ace hairdresser @vernonfrancois 👋🏻) to @peterandre and @georgiatoffolo. I met brilliant cook @melizcooks and @craigadoyle was super lovely.

The hair and make team were miracle workers and looked after pixie when I was on set (see her face…) (🙏🏻 @mishelmake_up @gemmafieldmakeup )

And last but not least - alisonhammond55 and @dermotoleary were so bloody nice and obviously love each other (so those stories are shite). @oh and @alisonhammond55 is having a serious glow up! (But she wasn’t wearing the £40 faux diamond ring disappointingly!)

But though all of the above is ace fun (and makes my mum proud) I feel so privileged that people call and write in with their problems and trust me to help them. Sometimes their pain is so visceral it stays with - me but I hope by providing some coping mechanisms and some insight into human behaviours I can help people make positive changes.

Rambling now as slightly deranged due to early start.
